The Story Behind The Villages Loofahs

The Villages, Florida is the largest retirement community in the world. Residents enjoy warm winters, pickle ball, nightly live music, and golfing galore. In community with so much golf, it should be no surprise that there is a whole lot of talk about swinging. For years, outsiders have been fascinated by the stories of what really goes on inside the walls of the Villages.

There are many captivating tales of senior sex parties, partner swapping, alcohol, performance enhancing drugs, and of course loofahs. The Villages was even jokingly named as STD capital of Florida. But are the rumors really true? I guess it depends on who you ask. If you ask a Villager the going answer said with a cheeky smile is, “Why do you think we moved here?”

Over the years the Villages has continued to grow by record numbers. It seems there is always a new couple looking to share in the fun times. With all the fresh faces, one adept resident came up with a clever system for finding out who’s who so to speak. This is what is commonly referred to as The Villages Loofah Code.

Over the years, the loofah color code has varied somewhat which has led to some rather interesting misunderstandings. In recent years, the Loofah Code has become more known namely due to social media. Most Villagers have now adopted the color designations established by Reddit. However, we advise you politely ask especially if this is your first time hopping on board the loofah train. This way, you are not getting more than you bargained for.

Villagers that wish to identify their penchant can do so by hanging loofahs on their car, golf cart, or home welcome sign. Each color denotes a Villager’s personal preferences. Spouses or partners are not required to have the same color and many do not. Couples who like to mix things up can often be seen sporting multiple loofahs. You are allowed to switch your colors occasionally, but overly frequent color swapping is frowned upon in most groups.
